with J.Trevor Lawrence

Trevor specialises in stories from the old Cornish and Celtic 'Droll' tradition, some from the past and some newly written but retaining a flavour of the traditional Droll tellers. Trevor's storytelling events are for all circumstances and ages and he encourages participation from the listeners, sometimes with volunteers playing parts from the stories or repeating key phrases and also by helping with a musical accompaniment. He normally brings a large bag of percussion instruments for the children to use and his own recorders and mandolin.

The main emphasis is on having fun but with some subtle learning going on in the background. Many of the stories have a thought provoking or moral aspect to them. He can also provide story 'making and performing' workshops which are great for kick-starting the creative process and fulfil many National Curriculum outcomes including language and communication skills. Workshops can be arranged based around an existing story or creating a new one from the experiences and imagination of the participants. Workshops can also be part of other projects if required.

As a musician Trevor can also offer music workshops, usually from a Cornish perspective; many Cornish tunes or songs are from a specific area and can be utilised to celebrate local distinctiveness and a sense of place. If there is a music group already formed simple Cornish tunes can be provided beforehand and used to enhance the shared experience.. This can bring in local history, geography and customs and can involve both children with or without musical skills.

Trevor has a current CRB issued by Cornwall Council, is a member of Equity and is fully insured.

Parties, Festivals and Events, Banquets and Feasts, Schools and Special Needs groups, Children aged two to ninety two, Business development.

If we are all happy and creatively fulfilled we will work, learn and interact socially much more effectively. Storytelling experiences can create this for everyone regardless of age and experience.
